Accessibility Statement

Last updated: March 30, 2026

ActivGate is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people of all abilities. We continuously work to improve the user experience for everyone and apply recognised accessibility standards across our web and mobile platforms.

Conformance Status

Our target is conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. These guidelines help make web content more accessible to people with disabilities and more user-friendly for everyone.

Current Status

Partially conformant: we are actively working to bring all areas of the platform to full WCAG 2.1 Level AA conformance.

Accessibility Features

Navigation

  • Skip navigation links to bypass repetitive header content
  • Keyboard-accessible navigation for all interactive elements across the platform
  • Logical focus order that follows the visual layout
  • Focus management for modals, sheets, drawers, and dialogs
  • ARIA landmarks and roles for page structure (main, nav, aside, banner, contentinfo)

Screen Reader Support

  • Semantic HTML elements used throughout (headings, lists, tables, buttons, links)
  • ARIA labels and descriptions on interactive controls (booking forms, story creation, checkout)
  • Live region announcements (aria-live) for dynamic content changes such as notifications and loading states
  • Alt text provided for all meaningful images, including activity photos and provider logos
  • Decorative images marked with empty alt attributes (alt="")

Visual Design

  • Color contrast ratios meet WCAG 2.1 AA (minimum 4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text)
  • Information is never conveyed by colour alone
  • Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality
  • Responsive design supports zoom and reflow on small screens

Motion & Animation

  • Reduced motion support: animations and transitions are minimised or disabled when the 'prefers-reduced-motion' media query is detected
  • Story animations (stickers, text overlays, transitions) pause automatically with reduced motion preference
  • Autoplay for reels video is skippable and stoppable at any time

Forms & Checkout

  • All form inputs have associated visible labels
  • Required fields and validation errors are communicated to screen readers
  • Booking checkout, profile editing, and story creation forms are fully keyboard-navigable
  • Date pickers provide accessible keyboard alternatives

Media Players

  • Reels and story video players include accessible play/pause, mute, and fullscreen controls with ARIA labels
  • Music/audio players (used when adding tracks to stories and reels) include waveform visualisation with keyboard play/pause controls and ARIA labels
  • Videos do not auto-play with audio by default

Known Limitations

  • Third-party map embeds (Google Maps, Mapbox) have limited keyboard accessibility for complex route interactions.
  • Third-party payment forms (Stripe, HyperPay, Tap) are provided by those services and may not fully conform to WCAG 2.1 AA.
  • Some older listing and community pages are being progressively updated to meet current standards.
  • Booking invoice PDFs are generated programmatically; screen-reader compatibility may vary.

Mobile App Accessibility

The ActivGate mobile app (iOS & Android) follows platform accessibility guidelines:

  • Minimum touch target sizes of 44×44 points
  • Dynamic type / font scaling support
  • Accessibility labels on all interactive components
  • Reduced motion support via system preferences
  • VoiceOver (iOS) and TalkBack (Android) tested on key flows

Assessment Approach

We assess accessibility through:

  • Self-evaluation using automated tools (Lighthouse, axe, WAVE)
  • Manual testing with keyboard-only navigation
  • Testing with VoiceOver (macOS/iOS) and NVDA (Windows)
  • Ongoing code reviews for accessibility regressions
